This is where you are able to make deposits and withdrawals, change passwords, update details and perform a number of other actions.
MetaTrader 5 was released in 2010 and was not intended as un upgrade to MetaTrader 4, but rather as a completely new platform. It was not backward compatible with MT4 and many cite this as one of the reasons why it was not destined to be as successful as its older sibling. MT4 was originally intended as a forex only trading platform, whereas MetaTrader 5 was intended to be a multi-asset platform that included other instruments such as commodities and stocks. However, brokers were already using MT4 for other such instruments like oil and gold, and found workarounds for other, newer CFD assets like stocks and indices when they started expanding beyond forex into multi-asset brokerage. The same is true of the DMA (direct market access) trend in online trading, when brokers began switching from keeping client orders on their own books, to forwarding them on to liquidity providers. This was another one of the new use cases that MT5 was developed to serve. However, due to MT4’s first mover advantage and massive uptake, when brokers started switching their business models over from B-book to A-book they managed to do so while still remaining with MT4 as their main platform. Another reason for MT4’s longevity is its massive developer community. MT4 uses the MQL4 language, allowing anyone to program indicators, graphical objects and Expert Advisors (EAs, or trading algorithms). With MT5, MetaQuotes introduced a new non-backward-compatible language called MQL5, and again many developers chose to remain with the language they already knew and had devoted time and resources to mastering, rather than switching to a new and as yet unproven platform and language.
Yes you can, in fact we encourage it. Apart from the basic trading education that all traders should undergo in order to understand how markets and trading work, we believe that trading on demo with MetaTrader 4 is the single most effective way for beginners to learn how to trade before risking any of their own capital. MT4 offers a demo trading experience that is almost indistinguishable from live trading. As such, it’s the closest thing we have to a full trading simulator that can help you get used to the demands of live trading. We recommend that all of our traders make the most of their demo accounts before trading live. Every EverFX trader has access to an unlimited demo account, for free, from the moment they register their account with us. Even experienced traders can benefit from using a demo account as it’s the perfect way to test new strategies without any risks when they are still under development.
